Yonderberry Oil and Petroleum Supply Jetty

Placing the piles

The piles (or legs) of the new jetty are long (about 30 m) steel tubes that are brought to the site on a barge. They are lifted into a vertical position by one of the on-site cranes and dropped into exact positions on the river bed. Clearly, the length rquired to sink a pile to its bedrock will vary in each position so, once the pile is in position, a different length of steel will be left standing out of the water in each position. The photos show the new piles in position, ready to be cut to exactly the correct height. Upon these, the new horizontal concrete floors will be cast. Note that in some of the photos, the longest upstanding pipes are legs on the movable platform used to carry out the work.
