Yonderberry Oil and Petroleum Supply Jetty

Dolphin removal- October 2022

There were three 'dolphins' or mooring islands associated with the old jetty. One was situated north of the jetty and two were to the south that I could view from my location. These were removed in the autumn of 2022. The two dolphins visible to me are shown below before work started to remove them..

The image above shows the tug, Prince Rock, manoeuvring the rig into position.

Unfortunately, the position was directly between me and the dolphin wo I could not monitor the removal of the concrete top.

When the top had been removed, the naked legs were left behind.

Later, the crane was used to pull the legs vertically out of the mud.

The top third of the leg was subject to immersion by the 6 metre (max) rise and fall of the tide. Of interest we see that the middle third had a spiral ladder that must have been used by divers to inspect the leg under permanent immersion. The final third was permanently sunk into the river bed - not a great amount, it appears. Presumably the strength was build up by the total number of legs used for the dolphin.

The legs were dropped onto the barge alongside the rig.
