Yonderberry Oil and Petroleum Supply Jetty

Early Images

Above, is my earliest photo from 1982 showing the jetty with RFA Olwen alongside on the left. The photo was taken at the commencement of the Falklands conflict and shows the Atlantic Causeway (centre) leaving the naval base having been fitted out in readiness for support to the navy in the south Atlantic. Her sister ship, the Atlantic Conveyor had already undergone the same conversion and had left for the combat zone. She was, of course, later sunk, whilst this vessel survived.

Above: Fuel supplies become highest priority during the Falklands crisis in April 1982. I believe the ship is either Olmeda or Olwen. The image is a good example of how the large crane in the submarine refitting complex (SRC) dominated the skyline in the late 20th century.

Above: This unidentified BP tanker provided a rapid turnaround delivery in Apr 1982.

This image shows the business end of the old jetty which is for complete removal. Two fire-fighting platforms can be seen at the left and right, whilst two fuelling derricks are in the centre. For many years, a floating pontoon was on the landward side of the jetty so as to allow fuelling of the many small craft of the naval base with petrol and diesel.

Above we see HMS Lyme Bay being manoeuvred behind the old jetty on 2 May 2018 prior to commencement of work on the new jetty.
